Some people have had impressive sounding job titles, some people have extensive culinary, photographic, marketing or journalistic experience. Some people are descended from or entwined with other people who are famous. Some people still fit into size 10 jeans. Good for them. I am the opposite of this.

The blog

Maison Cupcake started in July 2009 with a few cupcake photos after a Big Lunch street party.

Now I feature baking, desserts and party food recipes, kid friendly restaurant reviews, family days out and travel.

For information about blog stats and contact, see my page on “PR queries”.

The food

I’m self taught unless you count a GCSE in Home Economics. Nigella and Delia kept me interested in cooking during my twenties although it’s only since becoming a mother that I’ve taken up baking again.

Having done so much window shopping for baked goodies, the way other women do shoes, I decided to learn how to make my own biscuits, cakes and fun stuff.

I’m not a caterer I occasionally make birthday cakes for friends locally.

The family

Based in North East London, I live with my 3 year old son, Ted, and husband Nick. We like to do lots of day trips, travel as much as we can and take far too many pictures in the process.

The photos

My Canon Powershot G11 point and shoot takes pictures taken whilst I’m cooking, in restaurants and travelling about.  Styled food photos are usually taken with a Canon 400D DSLR using a 18-55 mm or 35-80 mm lens. Pictures may be quickly taken on a work top on bright days or styled up and using a tripod depending on time available.

The writing

I completed my first novel (88 pages long), at the age of 7. The synopsis was that four little girls became stranded overnight in a shopping centre, which is still my fantasy today – apart from the bit where they get rescued by a dog.  Three months after posting my manuscript, Puffin Books replied with a polite letter. I took rejection harshly and abandoned my dreams of being the next Enid Blyton along with the five other little works in progress.

30 years later I’ve not written any more books or diaires but can publish myself via this blog, everyday if I like. Hurrah!

The technology

I’m a mac user blogging with WordPress. Using the Atahualpa theme, I do all my own CSS coding and blog design although my talented husband does all the graphics.

The quickest way to get my attention is to tweet me @maisoncupcake
