December 1st is World AIDS Day and the UK’s leading HIV charity dedicated to transforming society’s response to HIV, the National AIDS Trust asked me to spread the message amongst keen home bakers about their fundraiser, Bake Aware. I put together these sparkly red ribbon cookies… they remind me of Dorothy’s shoes in the [Read on...] November 26th, 2011 | Tags: Cookies, Fundraising, Sugarcraft | Category: Baking, Food, Recipes | 7 comments
We’ve had our dry run for BBC Children in Need 2011! Actually our trick or treaters enjoyed these last week so we’ll have to make some more in time for November 18. [Read on...] November 7th, 2011 | Tags: Baking, Children, Cookies, Family, Sugarcraft | Category: Baking, Family, Food | 9 comments
A spell has been cast on me; since mastering the art of cookie piping during the writing of my book, I have been bitten with the cookie decorating bug and cannot stop. Cookie decorating may not seem like the perfect activity with a small child around but believe me, it is. The dough can [Read on...]
October is not just for Hallowe’en but also breast cancer awareness month for the charity Breakthrough. Breast cancer is a devasting disease for women (and sometimes men) and their families; the earlier it is detected, the greater the likelihood of survival. Breakthrough believe this disease can be beaten by fighting on three fronts; research, [Read on...] I’ve been laid low by the dreaded lurgy these past four days and unfortunately still heavily reliant on anaesthetic throat spray, painkillers and hours at a time hiding under fleecy blankets on the sofa. Hence I’m publishing a post I’ve had saved for such an occasion and normal service (plus a jolly exciting Mother’s Day [Read on...] March 14th, 2011 | Tags: Baking, Biscuits, Children, Cookies, Sainsburys | Category: Baking, Family, Food, Mummy Stuff | 22 comments
Today I am celebrating my first ever guest post on another blog. Right now you can find me at Maggy’s wonderful children’s crafts blog, Red Ted Art talking about these cute Love Hearts style cookies. Based on the popular sweets, they are perfect for Valentine’s Day and easy to bake with children. Just be [Read on...] January 28th, 2011 | Tags: Baking, Biscuits, Children, Cookies, Toddlers, Valentine's Day | Category: Baking, Food, Recipes | 10 comments

Having grown up celebrating Hallowe’en with little more than apple bobbing in a bin bag, the explosion of this spooktastic celebration still takes some getting used to. Trick or treating appeared in my neighbourhood some time after The Goonies rather than E.T., like carol singing only with menaces passing without event just in time [Read on...] October 23rd, 2010 | Tags: Cakes, Cookies, Halloween, Pumpkin, Shopping | Category: Family, Food, Party Food, Ramblings | 10 comments
Rachel Allen describes these melting moments as “intensely chocolately and utterly moreish”. I was sceptical, afterall there was only 1oz of cocoa in the recipe. She’s not wrong though. More very lazy cookies following on from my recent post about Pecan and Cinnamon Slice and Bake Cookies. I baked these in two halves – one batch for friends and toddlers coming round to play, one batch of dough left in the freezer for an emergency. Boy did I have an emergency last week. These are lazy cookies. True, they were quite easy to make but I am doing a lazy post as there are a couple of bumper posts in the pipeline and I need to save my energy! I’m really excited about the posts I have coming up and hope that you enjoy reading them as [Read on...] Three months in and I’ve bombed out of my first Daring Bakers’ Challenge. This month we’d been due to make Orange Tian which had core components of paté sablée biscuits, whipped cream mixed with gelatin or something, carefully cut pieces of orange segment, caramel sauce and as if that wasn’t enough, marmalade. It [Read on...] A quick and easy pudding today. I have been lolling on the sofa watching Julie & Julia on dvd after a cupcake decorating marathon for the final Cake A Difference cupcakes. After all my hard work I am on target to have raised over £200 for Bliss and will do a dedicated post about [Read on...] After the last bumper picture packed post I hope you will forgive me for doing a little recycling today. I had so much of the zabaglione, pastry cream, whipped cream and mascarpone mixture left over from assembling the tiramisu that I piped it into glass dishes as a separate dessert. My second month cooking with the Daring Bakers and I almost didn’t make it. I had a little girl’s birthday cake to finish by the same date and naturally that had to take priority! This post has been a bit of a marathon – it’s a bit long with close to 50 images but [Read on...] March 2nd, 2010 | Tags: Biscuits, Cookies, Daring Bakers, Ginger, Limes, Mardi Gras, Mascarpone, Southern Comfort, Tiramisu, Zabaglione | Category: Baking, Desserts, Food, Recipes | 38 comments
Apologies for the yellow lighting but this is the only picture I have of these. I zapped them from my phone to my mom after I’d done them but packaged them up in a hurry next morning and forgot to re-photograph them in daylight. These butterfly cookies were taken to a play session at [Read on...] Pressing ahead quickly with this month’s Bake Five featuring Rachel Allen’s “Bake”, “Oat and Vanilla Shortbread Cookies”. I was very impressed with this recipe. I made the cookie dough in the Magimix and left it in the fridge before taking my son to playgroup. When we got back they were just right for slicing [Read on...] August 17th, 2009 | Tags: Baking, Biscuits, Cookies, Oats, Rachel Allen, Shortbread, Vanilla | Category: Baking, Food | Leave a comment
